News and Events

Occasional Care

While we do not offer a child care service their are plenty of other options for child care in and around the Coromandel Valley area. Options may include a child care centre or Family Day Care educator. For assistance in locating our closest child care centres speak with one of our staff or for Family Day Care assistance phone the Family Day Care Business and Customer Support Centre on 8343 6533 or 1300 551 890.

Playgroup Information

All Welcome

All families with children under five years of age are welcome to participate in our Outdoor Playgroup. It is an opportunity for your child to experience different activities in our beautiful natural environment. Activities include mud play, sand and water play, nature crafts, exploring natural resources, materials and enjoying free play outside. 0-5 years, parents, grandparents, carers and school aged children are all welcome. The Playgroup operates  on Saturday morning during school terms, 9:30-11:30am and is supported by a Playgroup Coordinator. $3 per family plus fruit to share.

Session Times

Preschool

We are a Government Preschool and work within the term timelines, policies & guidelines of the Department for Education and Child Development. If your child turns four before May 1, they will start Kindy on the first day of Term One in that year. If your child turns four on or after May 1, they will start Kindy on the first day of Term One the following year. (Aboriginal children and children who are Guardians of the Minister are the exceptions) All children are entitled to up to 15 hours each week, for 4 terms immediately prior to commencing school. If you elect to send your child to a Private school this date may differ. (Children with additional needs may be approved by DECD Support and Wellbeing service to commence Kindergarten two terms early, for one session per week, then 2 sessions the next term, leading to up to four sessions in their eligible year.)

Pre-entry

An unfunded pre-entry term is offered prior to sessional kindergarten of one session per week. Pre-entry is an introduction to kindergarten and parent information sessions are organized prior to enrolling.

Lunch care program

The lunch care program is unfunded and the costs of the program are met by the users. Full day sessions and combinations of full and half days are offered to meet family commitments, but spaces are limited.

Parent Information

We believe children learn through play and work with you and your child to foster and further develop their interests, skills and learning dispositions. We explicitly teach the vales of co-operation, respect, commitment and confidence. Our aim is for your child to enjoy learning and become a confident learner ready to move on into the formal schooling sector. We participate in the local community and plan excursions and visitors to link with the educational program. We encourage formal and informal reviews and evaluation of your child’s progress during their kindergarten year. If you have concerns about your child’s development or learning, support services can be provided for children and families and are available through DECD: social worker; speech pathologist; psychologist; pre-school support; bi-lingual support; Aboriginal educator. We encourage you to have your child’s details on our Waiting List and we will contact you to invite you and your child to an information session.  If your child has a diagnosed disability, significant learning needs or significant medical issues please discuss these with us prior to the information session.

Welcome

Coromandel Valley Kindergarten provides an educational program for pre-school children within a caring, safe and attractive environment. We are situated on a large shady block, next to a reserve. Staff, children and parents value the learning opportunities the outdoor area provides. The kindergarten is a locally managed Department for Education and Child Development (DECD) site.  The staff, parents and voluntary Governing Council members work together to maintain and develop the site, learning curriculum and site policies. You are welcome to contact us by phone or email to discuss your child’s pre-school learning and what we can offer. The kindergarten operates full time with kindergarten sessions operating Monday to Thursday.
